New for the 2006-2007 school year!
Do your friends often ask you to "look over their essay"?
Do you want to learn how to improve your own writing?
Do you have an interest in teaching?
Do you tutor as an after school job or for community service hours? If not, would you like to?
If you answered yes to any of these questions (or even maybe), then we would like to invite you to be a part of our new Writing Associates program. The W.A. program will teach you how to not only help your friends improve their reading and writing, but also help you to improve your own. As any teacher will tell you, the best way to really learn something is to try to explain it to someone else.
To be certified as a Mercy W.A., you will to complete 5 training sessions to be held during collaboration periods and occasionally after school. Each session will be 90 minutes long, and will cover things like reading and responding to your peers' writing assignments, knowing when to focus on global things like organization and when to focus on local things like grammar, learning how to work with students whose primary language is not English, offering reading strategies, and more. When you complete the 5 sessions, you will get a certificate of completion, as well as community service hours.
